Daily Review — 2026-08-22
The headline: a quiet, self-healing day — one fix shipped, everything else recovered on its own
Window: 2026-08-21T23:02Z → 2026-08-22T23:01Z. One commit landed: 62b28042, closing #3541 (kimi/claude mid-stream disconnect messages — "Response stalled mid-stream" / "Connection closed mid-response" — were misclassified as generic AgentFailed/Unknown, triggering a full agent-wide exponential-backoff cooldown for what is a transient stream blip). The pattern behind that issue actually recurred twice more overnight (internal:157125, internal:157126, both kimi/opus, 03:08 and 08:21 UTC) before the fix landed — both tasks self-healed via the existing generic retry path and are done.
Yesterday's two stale-branch PRs (#3538, #3536) are unchanged: still OPEN/BEHIND, still blocked on the exact two pre-existing clippy errors (useless_format at response_handler.rs:582, needless_late_init at review.rs:444) that 9b9000f0 already fixed on main a day earlier. No new CI attempt has run against either branch since 2026-08-20T23:04Z — confirmed via gh run list. This is expected, by-design behavior (try_unblock_ci_failure_task() only clears on merge/close, not rebase); the operator decision to rebase-and-retry from yesterday's report still stands.
What Shipped (Last 24h)
| Commit | Issue | Summary |
|---|---|---|
62b28042 | #3541 | Classify kimi/claude mid-stream disconnect messages as NetworkError instead of generic AgentFailed/Unknown, so a transient stream stall gets a short retry instead of a full multi-hour agent-wide cooldown. |
Closed today: #3541 (filed and fixed same-window).
Still open, unchanged from yesterday:
- #3535 — opencode
"not available in your country"misclassification. Fix already committed (ae8146bb); PR #3536 blocked on the same stale-branch CI issue as #3538, not on review. - #3453 — pending-CI-status prose causing review parse errors (claude/sonnet specific), 24 days old, no new occurrence today.

Breakdown of the non-success rows, cross-checked against task_activity:
kimi opus failedx2 (internal:157125,internal:157126) — the exact "response stalled mid-stream" pattern #3541 fixed today. Both tasks completed successfully after the generic retry recovered them; the fix landed after both occurrences, so future recurrences should get the lighterNetworkErrortreatment instead of the full cooldown.claude sonnet failedx4 — allsilence detection set task to newfollowingstuck-task recovery: no session found(internal:157099,157127,157137,157158). This is the designed generic recovery path, not a new failure mode; all four tasks aredone.opencode nemotron-3.5-lightning-free parse_errorx2 (internal:157094yesterday,internal:157098today) — same review-run signature both times: the raw stdout is opencode's NDJSON event stream ending in a partial prose summary ("All checks pass. Let me summarize the review...") withstep_finish reason:"unknown"and no trailing decision JSON. All ofparse_review_response,infer_review_response, and the assistant-message rescue path came up empty both times — there's genuinely no JSON anywhere in the output, not a parser gap. Both tasks nonetheless completed successfully (done) via the generic re-review path. This is now two occurrences of the same model+shape in ~30h; not filing an issue yet since it self-heals cleanly and the underlying rescue chain already tried everything it reasonably can — watching for a third occurrence before treating it as an actionable model-selection or prompt problem.

The error count (19) is higher than yesterday's 5, but every single row traces to the two patterns above (mid-stream disconnects, now-fixed; and the two known parse_errors) plus their paired stuck-task recovery events — no unexplained entries.

Routing and cooldowns
No repeated-cooldown or silent-model-failure patterns beyond the ones already accounted for above. No evidence of the stuck-task reclaim race (#3518 → #3523 → #3526) recurring.
Backlog and stuck work
internal:156996(PR #3538) and3535(PR #3536) remainblockedon the stale-branch CI issue from yesterday — no change, operator rebase/retry still pending.beanandoblivionbacklogs unchanged in shape:GitHub Actions billing failureblocks at merge time (correct per-task policy, operator-controlled), long-idle items already diagnosed in prior reviews as operator-controlled state.- 25 tasks in the global queue, 21

Policy alignment
Current operational behavior matches prompts/skills/orch/SKILL.md — no drift detected.
Issues Filed Today
None. #3541 was filed and fixed in the same window before this review ran. The recurring opencode review parse_error is being watched, not filed, since both occurrences self-healed without operator intervention and the existing fallback chain (parse_review_response → infer_review_response → assistant-message rescue) already covers the reasonable recovery paths.
Priorities for Tomorrow
- PRs #3536 and #3538 still need an operator rebase-and-retry — both are
BEHINDmain and will pass cleanly once rebased onto9b9000f0, per yesterday's diagnosis (unchanged today). - Watch
opencode/nemotron-3.5-lightning-freereview runs for a thirdparse_erroroccurrence with the same "partial NDJSON summary, no decision JSON" shape before considering a targeted fix (e.g. steering that model away from review duty, or a stricter format nudge in the review prompt). - Confirm #3541's fix reduces mid-stream-disconnect cooldown severity on the next occurrence — no more full agent-wide backoff for what should be a short
NetworkErrorretry. - #3453 remains the one other pre-existing open issue, now 24 days old, still no fresh occurrence to act on.
