Daily Review — 2026-08-14

The headline: quietest window in a week — one visibility fix, same-day find-to-fix again

Very low-activity, healthy day. Exactly one commit landed: a logging-visibility fix (#3515 → PR #3516, 62574470) that promotes five silent debug!-level failure branches in run_opencode_models_discovery_async() to warn! with distinct reason codes, so a future "model discovery returned empty" no longer requires guesswork about which branch fired. Filed 21:06 UTC, merged 21:20 UTC — 14-minute turnaround, continuing the run of same-day fixes seen the last several days. No WATCHDOG stalls, no DB-lock errors, no parse errors, no timeouts in the corrected 24h window, orch.error.log still empty (stale since Aug 9).

What Shipped (Last 24h)

1 commit landed (window: 2026-08-13T23:05Z → 2026-08-14T23:05Z):

CommitIssueSummary
62574470#3515 (PR #3516)The five failure branches in opencode's model-discovery async path (command_not_found, spawn_failed, exit_status_failure, wait_failed, timeout, empty_output, no_free_models_in_catalog) logged at debug!, invisible at production log levels. Promoted to warn! and threaded a reason code into the cache-update warning so a single log line explains why discovery returned empty.

Closed today: #3515 → #3516, filed 21:06 UTC, merged 21:22 UTC — 14-minute turnaround.

Still open: #3453 (bug(review-prompt): pending CI status prose still causes review parse errors) — now 16 days old, the only open issue in the tracker. Not re-verified against HEAD this review since no new evidence surfaced; carried forward as the standing priority.

Operational Health

Throughput and Activity

task_activity in the last 24 hours (query corrected for a string-comparison quirk — started_at/timestamp are stored as ...T...Z, so a naive datetime('now','-24 hours') comparison against that format sorts incorrectly; wrapping the column in datetime(...) fixes it):

Roughly a third of yesterday's volume (104/35/30 → 77/28/27 on the comparable event types) — quiet, not stalled: no WATCHDOG errors, no DB-lock errors in the window.

No parse_error and no timeout rows in the accurate 24h window — a clean run for both classes that generated issues on recent days. The single claude:sonnet failed row (task 156454, 00:11 UTC) is silence detection set task to new: the generic silence-detection mechanism firing correctly on one stalled session, followed by standard stuck-task recovery cleanup — self-recovered, not a new pattern. The 3 task_activity.error rows in the window are all self-recovering: two are the 156454 silence-detection pair above, one (task 156460, 09:17 UTC) is stuck-task recovery: internal in_review session killed — the existing rebroadcast-cleanup mechanism doing its job, not a failure.

opencode/ling-3.0-tiny-free: the late-night timeout clustering did not repeat

Yesterday's review flagged 4-of-5 late-night timeouts on this model across 2026-08-10 through 08-13 as a watch item. Tonight's window has zero ling-3.0-tiny-free runs at all, timeout or otherwise — no data point either way. Carrying the watch item forward rather than closing it, since a single quiet night with no runs isn't evidence the pattern resolved.

Routing: cooled-agent LLM proposals continue to surface, safety net still catching them cleanly

The route_with_llm cooled-agent filter (#3509/#3511, merged 2026-08-12) reduced but hasn't eliminated the LLM classifier occasionally proposing a cooled agent/model. Tonight's log shows two occurrences, both on this review's own two dispatch cycles (23:00:18Z and 23:00:42Z UTC): LLM selected cooled agent/model; rerouting to available agent agent=minimax fallback=claude. minimax:opus remains in a long persisted cooldown. Both were caught immediately by the existing sanity-check-and-reroute safety net with zero functional impact — same shape as yesterday's report, not a new finding, not filed (per repo policy: expected cooldown/reroute behavior unless the classifier is proposing cooled agents at a rate that causes harm, which it isn't — the net always catches it).

orch.error.log still empty

0 bytes, mtime unchanged since Aug 9 — stale, unrelated to this window.

Backlog and stuck work

The two review_cycles = 1 rebroadcast-blocked tasks flagged in the last four daily reviews are still frozen — same block_reason (review agent rebroadcast escalated after repeated retries), needs_review_refires = 6, updated_at unchanged since 2026-08-09T22:44:38Z, now 5 days without reconciliation. This review's log window shows no output from #3507's diagnostic logging (merged two days ago) for these two specific tasks — still no new evidence to act on, so still holding off rather than re-guessing at a bug class that already has five dedicated fixes on record.

The rest of the blocked backlog is unchanged in shape: GitHub Actions billing failure blocks at merge time (correct per-task policy, several tasks in other tracked projects) and a handful of long-idle items. Nothing new or stuck in this repo's own queue.

Issues Filed Today

New: none filed by this review. #3515 (opencode model-discovery debug-level blind spot) was filed and fixed entirely within today's window by an earlier session before this review started — already covered above, not duplicated here.

No other issue met the bar to file: zero parse_error/timeout rows in the accurate window, the minimax/cooled-agent reroutes are the existing safety net working as designed, and the two rebroadcast-blocked tasks still have no new diagnostic signal to root-cause against.

Priorities for Tomorrow

  1. #3453 remains the single open issue, now 16 days old, still unaddressed. Still the fastest path to an empty tracker.
  2. Check whether #3507's debug logging has produced any output yet for the two frozen rebroadcast-blocked tasks (unchanged since 2026-08-09, now 5 days).
  3. Keep watching opencode/ling-3.0-tiny-free late-night timeouts — no runs at all tonight, so the 4-of-5 clustering from the prior four days is neither confirmed nor resolved.
